Putaway

Also searched as: Putaway

Definition (plain English)

Putaway is the warehouse process of moving received goods into assigned storage locations after unloading, counting, inspection, and system receipt.

Why it matters commercially

Putaway timing affects when imported stock becomes sellable, how accurately it can be picked, and whether storage, detention, or labor delays spill into customer service.

Example

A container was delivered on Monday, but stock was not available until Wednesday because the warehouse had to inspect cartons, scan pallets, and complete putaway by lot code.

Common mistake

Planning customer delivery from container arrival rather than from warehouse receipt, quality release, WMS entry, and completed putaway.
