Pick & Pack
Category: Warehousing
Definition (plain English)
Pick and pack is the warehouse process of selecting ordered items from stock, checking them, packing them, labeling them, and handing them to the carrier.
Why it matters commercially
It affects fulfillment cost, order accuracy, customer service, batch control, and whether the quoted margin survives actual warehouse handling fees.
Example
A 3PL quote looked cheap until pick-and-pack fees, carton materials, courier labels, and lot-code capture were added to each ecommerce order.
Common mistake
Pricing fulfillment from storage cost only and missing per-order picks, extra units, packing materials, label work, inserts, returns, and exception handling.
