D2C
Category: Business model
Also searched as: Direct to consumer
Definition (plain English)
Direct-to-consumer selling where a brand sells to end customers without relying mainly on distributors or retailers.
Why it matters commercially
D2C gives pricing and customer-data control but pushes fulfillment, returns, payment, service, inventory, and compliance execution onto the seller.
Example
A private-label food brand accepted lower distributor volume to launch D2C, then added pick-pack, courier, refunds, and shelf-life markdowns to the margin model.
Common mistake
Comparing D2C selling price to wholesale price without adding acquisition cost, payment fees, returns, fulfillment labor, and unsold stock risk.
