VGM Cut-off
Category: Logistics
Definition (plain English)
VGM cut-off is the deadline for submitting the verified gross mass of a loaded container before it can be accepted for vessel loading.
Why it matters commercially
A missed or inaccurate VGM can block loading, roll the container, create terminal charges, and expose the shipper to safety and compliance risk.
Example
The forwarder asked for final packed gross weight before VGM cut-off because estimated pallet weights were not enough for the carrier filing.
Common mistake
Using estimated product weight instead of verified loaded-container gross mass including pallets, packaging, dunnage, and container tare requirements.
