Net Weight
Category: Logistics
Definition (plain English)
Net weight is the weight of the goods themselves, excluding cartons, pallets, wrapping, and other transport or retail packaging.
Why it matters commercially
Net weight supports product specification, customs data, food labeling, duty checks, and reconciliation against gross weight and packing-list totals.
Example
A food shipment needed net product weight on the invoice and packing list separately from palletized gross weight so the broker could file correctly.
Common mistake
Using gross and net values interchangeably across invoice, packing list, label, certificate, and customs data.
