THC (Terminal Handling Charges)
Category: Charges
Definition (plain English)
Terminal handling charges paid for container or cargo handling at origin, destination, or both, depending on the quote and local tariff.
Why it matters commercially
THC can be hidden outside the base freight rate, so missing it makes supplier quotes, forwarder quotes, and landed-cost models look cleaner than final invoices.
Example
A low ocean freight quote became expensive after destination THC, release fee, and handling charges appeared on the arrival invoice.
Common mistake
Accepting "freight included" language without confirming whether origin THC, destination THC, or both are included and in which currency.
