Approval Number / Plant Approval
Category: Compliance
Definition (plain English)
An identifier showing that a production establishment is approved by the competent authority for specific regulated product categories.
Why it matters commercially
For meat, dairy, seafood, and other regulated foods, a wrong or missing plant approval can block border entry even when the product and invoice are otherwise correct.
Example
The importer checked that the plant approval number on the label, health certificate, and commercial invoice matched the approved establishment list.
Common mistake
Checking only the supplier company name and missing that production was outsourced to a different, unapproved facility.
