LCL
Category: Shipping Modes
Definition (plain English)
Less than Container Load means cargo is consolidated with other shippers instead of occupying a full container.
Why it matters commercially
LCL helps test demand or avoid overbuying, but it often adds consolidation, deconsolidation, handling, destination charges, and longer exception paths.
Example
A first order shipped as 6 CBM LCL so the buyer could validate demand before committing cash and warehouse space to a full container.
Common mistake
Comparing only ocean freight rates and ignoring minimum charges, deconsolidation fees, local handling, delay exposure, damage risk, and freight cost per unit.
