Sight L/C
Category: Payments
Definition (plain English)
A sight LC is payable when complying documents are presented and examined, rather than at a later maturity date.
Why it matters commercially
It gives the seller faster cash than a usance LC, but payment can still be delayed by document discrepancies, bank examination time, or sanctions checks.
Example
A seller agreed to sight LC terms only after aligning invoice wording, bill of lading instructions, certificate names, and latest shipment date.
Common mistake
Promising quick payment under a sight LC without building time for document correction, couriering originals, bank review, and discrepancy resolution.
