ITN (Internal Transaction Number)
Category: Customs
Also searched as: ITN
Definition (plain English)
The confirmation number issued after an accepted U.S. AES export filing.
Why it matters commercially
Carriers, forwarders, and document teams may need the ITN as proof that required export data has been filed before cargo departs.
Example
A shipment could not be released to the carrier until the exporter provided the ITN linked to the correct invoice value and destination.
Common mistake
Treating ITN as a clerical reference and not checking it against the shipment, EEI filing, invoice, and export-control requirements.
