Country of Origin Marking
Category: Compliance
Definition (plain English)
The label, packaging, or product marking that tells authorities and buyers where the goods originate under the destination market rules.
Why it matters commercially
Incorrect origin marking can trigger customs holds, relabeling, penalties, retailer rejection, or conflict with the certificate of origin.
Example
A retailer accepted the shipment only after cartons and retail labels showed the required origin wording in the destination language.
Common mistake
Assuming the supplier artwork is acceptable because the commercial invoice states origin correctly.
